Hello and welcome to E English House! 

EEH opened in 2001 with the goal of creating a friendly, at-home atmosphere for students to come and enjoy communicating in English. 

From this humble beginning, the EEH Family of students and teachers has grown every year and looks to do so for many more!  We'd like to think that this is because of our constant commitment to helping students, and their families, relax and see language as a means of sharing and communicating.  We try to take the stress out of English and put the joy in Communicating!

Hi!

My name is Lenny Straight.  I am from England and have been living and teaching in Japan since 2004.  I have two daughters who have taught me so much about communicating with children.  

I love playing the guitar, singing, dancing and reading. And I also love drawing!

I have been teaching English in Japan since I first arrived and EEH is my third school (and hopefully the last because I love it!).  I have taught babies from 4 months old to people who are 70 years old.  I have taught private classes to kindergarden classes with 100 kids!  Not only have I taught a lot, but I have learned so much.

At EEH I learned that communication should be clear, consistent and done with a lot of care.  EEH cares A LOT and that's why I love teaching here.  We are always trying to get the best ouf of our students and ourselves, with a lot of fun and a lot of love!

I would love to met you one day, so please stop by anytime to say HELLO!  There are lots of smiles waiting for you!

Hello!  Thanks for visiting the EEH Homepage!

I was a strange kid. From about the age of five on I refused to sleep on anything but a futon. My room was decorated with shoji screens and noren and I practiced karate 3 hours a day. My mother swore I was living out some sort of “past life experience”. As I grew older my interest in all things Japanese grew. I continued to practice martial arts, studied Japanese language and eventually graduated from college with a degree in Asian Religion.

After graduating college I moved to Japan and started my career as an English teacher. My first job in Japan was in Osaka but after one year I moved to Shiga and I love it here. In my spare time I love cooking, practicing karate and studying Japanese. I am also in graduate school right now studying for a degree in education. One day I hope to earn a PhD. Also, I am really happy to tell everyone that in December I will be getting married to my fiancée, Megumi, in Omijingu. Yatta!

I decided to work at E English House after meeting Eric at a conference for English teachers in Kyoto. I loved his ideas about teaching and the family-like environment he has created at E English House. I am really happy to have become part of that family. Before I go I would like to leave you with a short story about learning a foreign language.

One day two mice were scurrying around a house in search of some cheese. Suddenly they were spotted by a large cat that began to chase them. They ran as fast as they could but finally found themselves cornered. As the cat got ready to attack, one of the mice had an idea. As loudly as he could, and mimicing a dog's accent as closely as possible he said, "Bow Wow!!". The cat froze and then ran away whimpering. The smart mouse turned to his still shaking friend and said, "that's why it's important to learn a foreign language."

こんにちは！EEHのホームページへようこそ。

　 私は変わった子どもでした。５歳ころから布団以外で寝るのは嫌だったんです。。私の部屋は障子や暖簾が飾ってあり、毎日３時間空手の練習をしていました。 私の母は私が何か”前世”のようなもので生きていると言っていました。そして大きくなるにつれ、日本に対する興味もまた大きく膨らんでいきました。空手の 練習も続け、日本語の勉強もしました。そして大学ではアジアの宗教について勉強しました。

大学 を卒業した後、来日し、英語講師としての仕事を始めました。日本で初めて仕事をしたのは大阪でしたが、１年後滋賀に引越し、ここがとても気に入りました。 時間のあるときには料理や空手の練習、日本語の勉強などをしています。また、現在大学院にて教育学を勉強しています。そしていつか博士号をとりたいと思っ ています。それから、うれしい報告ですが、１２月に婚約者のめぐみと近江神宮にて結婚します。やったぁ！！

私は京都で開催された英語教師の会合でEricに出会い、EEHで働く決心をしました。私は彼の教えることについての考え方やEEHで作り上げている家族のような暖かい環境がとても大好きです。そしてその一員になれたことがとてもうれしいです。最後に外国語を学ぶことについての短いお話をしたいと思います。

あ る日２匹のねずみがチーズを探して家の中を走り回っていました。しかし突然彼らは大きな猫に見つかってしまい、追いかけられはじめました。彼らは必死で走 りましたが、角に追い詰められていることに気づきました。猫が攻撃しようとしたまさにそのとき、１匹のねずみがあることを思いつきました。できる限り大き な声で、できるだけ犬を真似て”わんわん！！”猫は一瞬固まり、泣きながら逃げていきました。その賢いねずみはまだ震えている友達のねずみに向かって言い ました。”だから外国語を学ぶのはとても重要なんだよ” 教室でお会いするのを楽しみにしています。

Hello and Welcome to EEH!!I didn't like English at all when I was a student, so when I arrived in Canada in 1999 I had no idea what my host mother was saying!  The first couple of months were tough! 

But I studied very hard while traveling across Canada, and despite problems at several youth hostels with food (stolen!) and the cooking stove (too many people!) I really enjoyed communicating in English. I also made many good friends! 

I ended up living in a house with 4 Canadians in Winnipeg and had a wonderful time there. Oh, and I also traveled around Australia with my orange tent and big backpack for a year!  You could say I'm adventurous!

I've been teaching for over 6 years now, but my first teaching experience was in Ohmihachiman. I really enjoyed all my students (children to adult) and their happy faces. Since then I've taught at several school and learned a lot from each, but am very excited about being here at E English House.

I understand how difficult - and fun - it is to learn a language and hope to share that journey with you.  I love the atmosphere here and hope to see you here at EEH!

こんにちは。EEHへようこそ！1999年から2000年にかけて、18ヶ月カナダに滞在しました。学生時代英語が大嫌いだった私はホストマザーの言っていることもさっぱり分からず、最初は大変でした。でもカナダ横断旅行で、ホステルに泊まったとき、冷蔵庫の私の食料がなくなったり、人が多すぎて何も言えず、キッチンが使えなかったときに初めて必死で英語を勉強しました。それから多くの友達を作ることができ、いつの間にか英語が大好きになっていました。そしてウィニペグという町で4人のカナダ人と共同生活をし、とても楽しい1年を過ごしました。また、オーストラリアでテントとバックパックで1年間旅もしました。冒険家でしょ！私は約5年くらい英語を教えてきましたが、初めて英語を教えたのはこの近江八幡市のあるスクールでした。子供から大人までの生徒さんたちや、その笑顔にいつも幸せな気分をもらっていました。それからいくつかの別のスクールで教え、また多くのことを学んできました。そして今、このＥＥＨで働くことができ、とてもうれしく思っています。私は言語を学ぶということの難しさと楽しさを知っていますし、EEHで皆さんにもそれを伝えたいなと思っています。このEEHの雰囲気が大好きですし、皆さんにも同じように感じてもらえたらいいなと思っています。EEHのスクールでお会いしましょう。

Hello!  Thanks for visiting!

I met Eric right after I returned from Canada, where I had studied early childhood education for 2 years.  He was teaching a friend of mine and I stopped by for a class.  Now my son comes to EEH and I'm working here!

My dream to become a teacher started in elementary school because I LOVED my first English teacher (she was Japanese).  I wanted to be like her.  I like teaching English now mostly because I love to see the children's smiles, and enjoy working at EEH because of the friendly atmosphere among students and co-workers.

Hello!  Welcome to E English House!

I've been teaching since I came to Japan 7 1/2 years ago and it has literally changed my life.  When I first came I didn't expect to marry a wonderful man and stay forever.  How things change!

Learning a language is a difficult thing to do.  I'm learning a lot from my 2 daughters!  And even though I study Japanese, it's a slow process.  But I think it helps me to understand my student's feelings!

I started working at EEH in 2005 and I really enjoy it.  The atmosphere is very friendly and supportive.  I currently teach only special toddler classes in the morning, but may teach a few afternoon adult classes once my youngest daughter starts school.

One thing I like about EEH is all the non-class activities such as BBQs and Kids' Fun Days.  Why don't you come out and join.

こんにちは！EEHへようこそ！

私は日本に来て以来ずっと英語を教えていますが、それによって私の人生は色々変化しました。最初来た時はこんなに優しいだんな様と結婚してここに残ることになるなんて思ってもみませんでした。大きな変化でしょ?!

言語を学ぶのは難しいことだと思います。私は4歳になる娘からたくさん勉強させてもらっています。日本語を勉強してもそんなにすぐには上達しません。でもそれを続けることで自分の生徒の気持ちを理解することが出来ると信じています。

EEH で私が教え始めたのは2005年ですが、雰囲気もとてもよく、楽しみながら働いています。現在、特別Toddlerクラスしか教えていません が、下の子が幼稚園に入るともっと教えたいと思っています。

ここでは通常クラス以外でのイベント(BBQや Kids' Fun Dayなど）が多く開かれることも私のお気に入りの一つです。ぜひ一緒に楽しみましょう！あなたに会える日を楽しみにしています。

Assistants

EEH has traditionally had Classroom Assistants in many of its children's classes.  The Assistant's job is to welcome students, maintain an organized classroom environment and help the teacher in any way he or she can.  Many of our teachers are also assistants, which gives us two teachers in the classroom!

Hello!

When come to EEH, you'll see my face through the little office window.  Welcome!  Even though I'm the one member of EEH who doesn't speak much English, I really like working at such a warm, caring school. 

I've learned a lot working here, especially from the school's philosophy on raising and teaching children.  As a working mother, I sometimes feel as though I raised my children on TV.  I wish I could have another chance!

I love working in this big family and hope to see you at the school.  Just don't speak English to me!

Hello!

事務を担当しているMiyukiです。英悟が苦手で話せない私がEEHの一員です???EEHはあったかい雰囲気でとっても居心地がいい所です。それにEricの、子どもを大切に育てる考え方や目線を同じにして話す育て方は、側で聞いていてもとっても勉強になります。あくまでも一人の人間として尊重し、目を見て叱る。自分の子どもを遠隔操作（自分は何かをやりながらしながら指図していました・・・）で育てた私は反省しきり。戻れるものなら戻ってやり直しがした～いです。いつでもいろんなことが勉強できる環境にいられることに感謝しています。でも・・・英悟の勉強は今一つの私ですので、当分は（果てしなく）英悟で話しかけないでくださいネ。本当に楽しいEEHです。

あなたと会えるといいなぁ・・・　私は、大家族が大好きです!!
